Our Favorite New Ships Sailing Now
Published Tuesday, April 14th 2020 - Updated Tuesday, April 21st 2020With the pandemic surprise of the century, one of the things up in the air is all of those new ships that were supposed to be setting sail over the next year or two. Will they be abandoned or just delayed? We thought it would be a good time to look at our favorite new ships from last year that you probably haven’t been on. In the end, if you haven’t been on it, it’s new to you. So if you are like us and want to experience the latest and greatest, check out the six cruises below.
Sky Princess - Princes prides itself on ensuring its clients that if you have been on a Princess Cruise, you can go on any of their ships and receive the same type of experience. Even for Princess though, a new ship deserves at least a couple brand new experiences and its worth upgrading what people already love. They have blended the two perfectly on the Princess Sky. What's new is the iconic Sea Walk that allows you to walk over a glass floor looking down onto the ocean. For almost everything else, they brought on some amazing upgrades. Starting with the Italian style Piazza that is their trademark central atrium. Over 80% of their cabins have balconies. There are over 25 restaurants and bars on board. The new contemporary designed sanctuary has even more private cabanas and the new pool deck received a fresh new look but still has one of our favorites features, Movies at Sea. Check out the video below to see more.
Carnival Panorama - This is the first new ship sailing from Long Beach California year round since the Love Boat and we hope it’s a trend that continues. It offers some exciting new features such as the first of its kind, the Carnival Kitchen. It allows you to try your hand at cooking some of Carnivals favorite dishes on board the ship. They also brought on some favorites from their other ships; the Sky Ride, which lets you sail above the ocean, the Sky Zone Trampoline Park, Water works with multiple slides, and the Sea Side Theater. Guy Fieri has two restaurants on board, including one of Carnivals favorite restaurants, Guys Burgers. Their latest elite Havanna staterooms and suites offer exclusive access to their own private area and pool. The Serenity Adults Only Retreat is a favorite for those wanting to escape and relax kid free. The traditional entertainment is joined by the new Lip Sync Battle where you can participate yourself and watch your fellow guests up on stage. The passenger interactive shows are always a highlight of any cruise.
Norwegian Encore - The newest sister ship of the Bliss includes the favorites from the class of cruise ships including the Race Track at Sea, the open air laser tag with augmented reality characters and the Galaxy Pavilion with interactive gaming. Water slides that sour out off the side of the ship 16 decks above sea level. The Encore is also the only ship that offers the full version of the Broadway play Kinky Boots, six complimentary restaurants and 12 of the best specialty restaurants found at sea. As with most of their other ships, at the top of this one, is the Haven, the most luxurious accommodations on the ship with their own private sundeck, lounge and priority status all around the ship.
MSC Grandioso - Most of you probably haven’t heard of MSC. This Italian based cruise line has been expanding a lot in the U.S. over the last couple years and the Grandioso is their newest. MSC offers a unique experience based pricing structure. The more perks you want, the more you pay. It allows you to pay only for the features and benefits you will take advantage of. The Galleria is the 300 foot central promenade that is the hub of the ship with restaurants, boutiques, shopping and socializing. The Atmosphere pool has over 100 sq feet of space per guest, some of the most found at sea with a screen for viewing movies after sunset. The entertainment includes the first Curque Du Soleil at Sea performance.
Celebrity Apex - This is the second ship in the Edge series and offers some of the most innovative concepts in cruising since cruising became a thing. The Grand Plaza is the place to socialize and is also where the specialty restaurants and countless bars are. The Theatre is the apex (pun intended) of the entertainment on the ship where you have a 360 surround experiences and production shows. The Eden has to be seen to understood and is unlike anything ever on a cruise ship. During the day, it is a social gathering place and at night turns into an incredibly interactive dining experience. One of its true innovation though is in the Affinity staterooms that replaces the traditional balcony with a window that opens up and extends your living area to the outdoors.
